What is dial up & DSL

1.	There are 2 kinds of internet connections. In other words, you can connect to internet in 2 ways. 1. - Dial up through a telephone line. $19/month normally This will give you 56,000 characters/second of information from the internet. 56,000 also called 56k. 56k is not too fast. For DMRS user, try to view only one camera instead of all 16 CCTV cameras. 2. - DSL $39/month normally They are fast, ranging from 300k to 3,000k.
2.	Once you are connecting to internet, your ISP will give a unique IP address to you computer through the internet. IP address is just like the home address of your house. There are millions computers connecting on the internet every moment. There are millions unique IP addresses were assigned to those computers. Since each computer bearing an unique IP address, then Mary can send e-mails to John without making a mistake sending the e-mail to the IRS.
3.	There are 2 kind of IP address - Fix and Dynamic Fix IP address- means whenever you turn on your computer and log on to internet, your IP remains the same. Never change as long as you pay your ISP. Microsoft has fix IP address. Their Fix IP address is 216.83.160.223. DMRS had fix IP address too. Our Fix IP address is 64.133.115.238. Dynamic IP address - means each time you turn on you computer and log on to internet, your internet service provider (ISP) will assign an available IP address to you. Once you turn off your computer, this IP address will give to someone else. Next time when you turn on, you will get another IP address. Dial up through telephone service always provide the user dynamic IP address. DSL can provide you a Fix IP or Dynamic IP address. Fix IP is more expensive than Dynamic IP address.
4.	If you are using dynamic IP address, you must find out your current IP address before you can connect to DMRS through the internet. You can call your staff or your wife to find out the current IP address of your DMRS. Or You can join a spcial Fix-IP-name service by Home Spy ($9.95/month. 12 month agreement). After you join the service, Home Spy will give you a unique name like Mary2John. You log on to www.homespy.com and key in Mary2John. Your dynamic IP will be displayed on the screen. Now you know you dynamic IP address, then you can make a remote connection to your DMRS. (What this service will do is, the software will scan you DMRS every 10 minutes to find out the IP address of your DMRS at that moment. The software will keep the IP address on the server awaiting for your attention. If your DMRS was turned off right after the scan, you will get a wrong IP for the next 10 minutes. Once the service scan you DMRS again in 10 minutes, you will see your current IP again.)
	You will only receive an IP address when you computer is ON
