How to find your IP address
BEFORE WE PROCEED,
MAKE SURE THAT YOU CAN SEE MICROSOFT'S WEB PAGE
BY TYPING WWW.MICROSOFT.COM UNDER YOUR BROWSER.
(This shows that you have a good connection to the web)
Stay on the web, don't exit from your browser and proceed with the
following steps:
If your are not on the web, you will not get the current
web-connection IP address.

Under Windows Click [Start]-[Run] The [Run] menu will appears |

Type winipcfg as shown on the
diagram on the left click [OK] to continue |

The IP configuration menu appears IP address is 0.0.0.0 Click the [ |

Let's highlight the network card which connect us to the
web. In this example, we use the D-Link DFE-530TX+PCI adapter as our network card connecting us to the Web. Highlight it and click [OK] to continue (If you have 2 network card, make sure choose the right one)

Now the IP address of your computer appears. For this PC, the IP address is 64.133.115.228 Write down the IP address |

Goto another PC, click Internet Explorer to do remote-viewing |

Type the IP address that we find out from using [Winipcfg]
in step 5. In this example, we type in 64.133.115.228 We should be able to see the remote site now. |

If you are not able to remote view under Internet Explorer, do the
following to be sure

Click [Start]-[Run] again to bring up the Run menu Type command and click [OK] to proceed. |

A DOS window will appear. type ping
64.133.115.228 If you see 4 replies on the screen, your IP address is working and correct. If you do not see the 4 reply, check the IP address & your typing again. |
| In one incident, a tech find out his
customer's IP is 127.0.0.1 127.0.0.1 is not a web IP, but a local IP of the PC. Ever PC in the world has this same IP address 127.0.0.1. In other words, there are billion PC bearing the same IP 127.0.0.1 There is no way that you can locate this PC by using 127.0.0.1.
If you see 169.254.xxx.xxx, it is not a web IP address. |
